Hosted by the Nesbitt Memorial Library Foundation, Live Oaks and Dead Folks is a nighttime lantern tour of the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery. During the tour, “departed” historical characters regale guests with their colorful and sometimes tragic stories. To celebrate Columbus’ 200th birthday, this year’s tour will feature 13 new “haints”, many of whom had an important connection to the town’s 100th birthday.
Guided tours begin at 5:30 p.m. (dusk) and take guests along a winding path, stopping at various gravesites to hear from costumed characters portraying the historical figures being highlighted. Tours last approximately 90 minutes. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 5:15 p.m. and bring a flashlight.
Now in its 20th year, the Live Oaks and Dead Folks Cemetery Tour has become one of Columbus’ most popular events, steeped in historical significance and family-friendly fun.
Tour tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Children under 6 are free. Tickets are limited and advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Nesbitt Memorial Library during regular business hours. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Nesbitt Memorial Library Foundation.
